Ohio Technical College offers the 1st Major Motorcycle Technician Program in the Midwest

The PowerSport Institute (PSI) is born!!

This coming September, Ohio Technical College will kick off it’s redesigned PowerSport Institute - a division of OTC consisting of a complete powersport training program which includes training on major motorcycle manufactures: Harley-Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki among others. With this program, Cleveland will become the main motorcycle technician training center in the Midwest and Northeast with a complete motorcycle training all in one course.

The motorcycle industry is booming right now. Manufacturers are reporting record sales and with more motorcycles on the road and the advancements in technology, there is an increasing need for more highly skilled trained motorcycle technicians. Tom King, Director of Enrollment Management at OTC says the PowerSport Institute will quickly become a major player in the motorcycle technical field. “Over the next five years, we see our enrollment increasing by 100 students per year just for PowerSport Institute (PSI) alone. This is an exciting time and we will be adding more to the program in the next few months.”

Ohio Technical College will start by offering 2 classes in September in a newly renovated facility located next to the existing 500,000 sq. ft. Ohio technical College campus. Students will be working hands on with motorcycles from the most well known brands in the business today. The course currently runs 12 months but soon will go to an 18 month program next year when training on three more brands of motorcycles will be added: KTM, Ducati, Big Dog and Triumph. OTC also plans to add a custom bike building program as an add on to the PowerSport Technology program, which will meet the demand being created by shows such as American Chopper.

PowerSports Institute will be a motorcycle enthusiast’s paradise. There will be hundreds of bikes and an extensive array of equipment for the students to work on. Mr. King said what makes this an excellent program is the training on the specific brands. “We have the cooperation of all the major motorcycle manufacturers and this program will feature all the players in one comprehensive course - not narrowly steering students to pick a manufacturer.

Students in PowerSports will not only learn the basics and manufacturers specific training with the major manufacturers, but will also work with ATV’s, snowmobiles and personal watercraft.
