Premier Motorcycle Technician Training Program Expands

PowerSport Institute to Become Largest Motorcycle / Powersport Training Center in US

CLEVELAND, OH – This Summer, the face of motorcycle technical training will change dramatically. The PowerSport Institute (PSI), a Division of Ohio Technical College, will move into its new home which spans more than 210,000 square feet on 15 acres and will add several new programs to complement its existing training. The entire Motorcycle World complex will feature the training campus, motorcross/snowcross race course, and other unique training and event facilities.

The complex, a former JC Penney Department store in North Randall, Ohio, will allow for the expansion of the multiple manufacturer training programs offered by PSI. Currently, PSI offers training on Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, the American V-Twin including: Harley-Davidson, Polaris and Victory, as well as, Arctic Cat snowmobiles and several others. “We are excited to be able to provide more space for each of our manufacturers in a very unique setting,” says Marc Brenner, President of Ohio Technical College. “The interior of the building will look like a walk down Main Street, USA, with store fronts for each manufacturer and significant space devoted to each.”

The motorcycle industry continues to expand rapidly with manufacturers reporting record sales and with more motorcycles on the road and the advancements in technology, there is an increasing need for more highly skilled trained motorcycle technicians. The PowerSport Institute is a motorcycle enthusiast’s paradise. There are hundreds of bikes and a wide array of ATVs, snowmobiles and personal watercraft from multiple manufacturers.

Tom King, Director of Enrollment Management at OTC says the PowerSport Institute will continue to grow rapidly. “Within the next few years, we look to approach 1,000 students and provide more program offerings.” Future plans are already underway for several new programs, which include: expanding the manufacturer training portions of the PowerSport Technician program, a new American V-Twin Specialist program, Custom Chopper Building, Custom Paint & Graphics, and Associate Degree coursework.

The future plans don’t stop there! PSI looks to build a motorcross/snowcross course on the property complete with grandstands to attract major events, offer a motorcycle safety course for students to get their licenses, provide dealer training and more. “This will be the ultimate enthusiast paradise. Elite training on motorcycles, snowmobiles, personal watercraft and ATVs along with events for students and spectators year-round,” says Bernie Thompson, Director of PSI.
